The Library Media Center supports the Alabama State Course of Study, the basis of our school curriculum, and its publication, "Alabama's Library Media Handbook for the 21st Century Learner" as well as "Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs," published by the American Association of School Librarians and the American Library Association. In addition, the Library Media Center endorses the literacy principles of the 2008 Standards of the 21st Century Learner of the American Association of School Librarians.
Mission Statement: The mission of the Crestmont Elementary Library Media Center is to ensure that students and teachers are effective users of information and ideas.
This is accomplished by:
providing physical and intellectual access to information in all formats
providing instruction to foster confidence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas
working with teachers to design and implement learning strategies that address needs of individual students
--Information Power: School Guidelines for Library Media Centers (1988)
Flexible Library Schedule: Crestmont students, faculty, and parents are welcomed and encouraged to take advantage of the library media center resources. The flexible library hours offer patrons convenient and open access to library resources, including books, audiobooks, periodicals, DVD's, videos, computers, printing services, cable television, digital projection, a video camera, and a digital photography camera. The library media center is available throughout the day for classes, small groups, and individual students.
