GUIDANCE AND YOUR CHILD

With the 2008-2009 school year winding down, we at Crestmont are taking a quick look over our shoulders to evaluate our year and are beginning to look forward to our goals for next school year.  We like to think about our academic achievement this year as well as our personal and social growth,  In keeping with our "3 R's," with each school year we are learning to be more responsible for our own achievement, and how to respectfully relate to our teachers and friends.  Our "BIG" goal as we wrap up this year is to be ready for 2009-2010.

Every morning this year, we have started our day with a Jump Start Thought for the Day, and parents have received, on most weeks, a take home letter about our character trait for the week.  I hope you were able to discuss these traits in your home and encourage each member to develop every trait.  As most of you would agree, good character must go hand in hand with academic progress for our students to be truly successful and fulfilled in adult life.

Parents, please use your tremendous, loving influence over your children to keep them academically active during the summer.  Summer days are long, and a lot of outdoor play is fun and vital not only to your child's physical growth and development but also to developing skills and abilities necessary to learning.  But at the end of every day when the sun goes down, there is a wonderful opportunity to spend time reading with your child.  Reading is a great way to find things to talk about with your child, and every positive minute you spend with him or her moves your student one step closer to the success you desire to see in him as an adult.

Every student at Crestmont is a bundle of potential, a resource for all the skills and knowledge necessary to life for society as a whole. We can't afford to lose one of them to failure.  Without what each individual at Crestmont has to offer, we will miss knowledge, ability, love, and creativity that only that individual can offer.

Thanks, students and parents, for allowing me to participate in the growth of your uniqueness.

See you in August!
